Jonker Street Nutrient Trails - Jonker 88 & Jonker Nighttime Market

The almost famous tourist street inward Maleka had to live on the Jonker Street (雞場街), nobody comes to Melaka without visiting the Jonker street to store in addition to swallow the local delights. This street is good known for its weekend nighttime market, exactly in that place are stuffs you lot tin flame cheque out during the hateful solar daytime too.

The tertiary makan house that nosotros visited to cause got a sense of savour of local Malaccan nutrient is Jonker 88. Right smack inward the middle of Jonker street, this pop tourist eating theatre is quite worth checking out for its rustic in addition to nostalgic interiors, in addition to also its food.

This house runs similar a self-service nutrient courtroom where patrons cause got to notice their ain tables, in addition to and then queue upwards at the stalls to purchase their food. No serving staffs here, although they produce accuse GST inward the toll of their food.

There are mainly iii kinds of nutrient sold here, Noodles & Rice, Rojak & Ngoh Hiang in addition to Desserts. Being our showtime fourth dimension here, nosotros ordered the almost pop items from all iii categories for sharing.

For Noodles, nosotros had the famous Laksa inward iii dissimilar flavors. The Baba Laksa RM6.00+ is similar to SG Laksa amongst a fragrant kokosnoot milk broth, the Nyonya Asam Laksa RM7.00+ is similar to the sourish Penang Laksa amongst assam broth, in addition to in conclusion the Baba Laksa Kahwin Nyonya Asam Laksa RM7.00+ which has a mixed broth from both Baba in addition to Nyonya Laksa.

Nyonya Asam Laksa

All iii Laksa were served amongst same ingredients (Prawn, taupok, beancurd skin, egg etc.), the Baba laksa comes amongst sparse beehoon, whereas the other 2 had thick beehoon (translucent type used inward Penang laksa).

My personal fave is the Baba Laksa, the spicy kokosnoot broth was real good. Some of my friends preferred the slightly sourish mixed broth laksa, exactly nosotros all agreed that the Nyonya laksa was non every bit overnice every bit the original Penang laksa.

One friend who couldn't cause got seafood had the Fish Fillet gravy noodle RM5.50+, which basically is a dry out version of SG Yong Tau Foo. She said it tasted alright.

Also for sharing are the Baba Salad RM10.00+ in addition to Baba Goreng Goreng (price depends on ingredients chosen). The Baba salad was a peranakan mode Rojak amongst mixed fruits, piece the Baba goreng goreng was their version of SG Ngoh Hiang. Both were expert exactly non great, I would swallow the ngoh hiang over again though.

Last exactly non least, each of us ordered a bowl of Cendol for dessert. Two original types that's pop hither are the signature Baba Cendol w/ gula melaka RM4.00+ in addition to the Baba Durian Cendol RM5.00+. The cendol hither were quite disappointing, nosotros all agreed the SG version is much nicer than this. Maybe we'll endeavour the Ice Kacang adjacent time.
